At Underflod, our mission is to create designs without excess - and that is precisely where our name comes from. Therefore, circular design is a central part of everything we do. Where many start with an idea and then find materials, we reverse the process: we start with existing materials and design products based on their shape, history, and potential.
Our designs are created with a focus on timeless aesthetics and durable materials. The goal is to create products that last for generations.
Cutting boards and tapas boards in circular design
Our cutting boards and tapas boards are crafted from wood sourced from the Danish kitchen industry. When countertops are produced, holes are cut for sinks – and precisely these cut-offs are the ideal size to be transformed into cutting and tapas boards.
Instead of letting the material go to waste, we take the surplus wood and give it new life. The result is boards with a simple and timeless design, where functionality is in focus – this is evident in features such as grooves that collect breadcrumbs and meat juices.
Responsible production at social workshops
Once the material is selected and the design is in place, it is sent to a social workshop here in Denmark, which applies to all our products.
Here, people who are unable to hold a regular job get the chance to become part of a meaningful work community. The wood is cut, sanded, and treated with natural oil, which makes the boards dirt-repellent and easy to clean.
In this way, we combine responsible production with a social purpose, contributing to creating value for both people and materials.

Why it is important for us to produce circularly
It is important for us to produce circularly because high-quality materials already exist that can advantageously be reused or upcycled into timeless, durable, and aesthetic products. By producing locally and with social responsibility, we reduce both the environmental impact of transport and ensure more responsible production.
All of this contributes to a more circular approach, where we reduce pressure on the planet's resources and utilize what already exists in a better way.
